The prompt that I used was Write One Word Over And Over. I chose to interpret the prompt by using an American hero, Chris Kyle, who passed away 2 years ago and painting his name over and over. So far I think its coming out pretty good but I'm not done so I still have to keep working to finish it.

The prompt I used was texture. I interpreted this prompt through Aquaman because my theme is super heroes. Aquaman's suit has fish scales on it and that's when I thought that I could use the scales to express texture. I thought the process was fairly easy though time consuming because I had to wait for it to dry a couple of times. In general yes I am happy with it, but the one mistake that I am not happy about is that I painted his belt in the wrong direction. It should have been pointing down instead of pointing up.
1) I believe that my most successful piece of art has to the ocean and the boat that I did for the pressure theme. I think its my best one because on the other ones I just picked something that I thought was easy to complete rather than the boat which took a lot of time and effort because I had to cut out 2 pieces. This artwork, as I stated in one of my previous blogs, is something that I took from my life and applied it to my artwork. I love the beach/ocean and have always felt that it was part of me and I wanted to express that in my Pressure theme artwork. 2) The project that I felt that I overcame the most obstacles was my Man/Machine project. It was the most difficult in my opinion because I had started on a piece of work and had a lot of progress on it but I didn't like how it was coming out so I had to start over. I don't regret starting over because I was very pleased with my second piece of work and how it came out. 3) The 2 pieces of work that show my growth as an artist are Interior/Exterior and Pressure. My Interior/Exterior project showed my growth because I was able to advance my skills using the chalk pastels and blending them to make different shades of colors. I will say that "El Mango" came out pretty good; I was satisfied with how the blending of colors came out. On the other hand my Pressure project helped me grow as an artist because I got better at cutting the block and creating objects with it. The waves that I cut out came out exactly as I wanted them to come out, although I will say that I should have printed my boat in a different location but oh well it still came out kool. 4) I was really appreciative of the opportunity to get to pick what I wanted to do and how I would do it. Having little restrictions was really helpful in expanding my creativity and giving me more choices. For example, when I'm given limitations on what I can and can't do, it make me feel restricted and prevents me from exploring new and different ways to create art and express myself in the art that I make. Again like I said before, I really like this method of learning/teaching.
I did Artists Create Original Art/Artists Communicate Through Their Work because for new theme pressure, I chose to do water as in water pressure. I chose to do water because I'm not sure if you know this but I was born in Brownsville, Texas which is very close to South Padre Island. Every summer we go down there to visit my grandparents and to go to South Padre beach. I love the beach and due to the fact that I was born very close to it, I feel like the water is part of me. I have a shirt that says "Del Mar" which in spanish means "Of The Sea." That's the source from where I got the idea of doing water and to make the water not look so boring I chose to do a boat on the water because when I retire (from whatever I will be doing) I plan on having a sailboat.
I also did Artists Develop Art Making Skills because I learn a new skill which was carving with the lino cutter and used that technique into my work. I learned that I have to carve away from myself so I do not cut myself. While I was carving waves of water my skill of carving with the lino cutter greatly increased. When I was carving the boat I learn that I had to be precise with my lino cutter so that the edges of the boat would look nice and sharp. I also learned that with different cutting tips I could show the different types of depths that the water had. I did Artists Create Original Art because for my interior and exterior project I chose to do it over a mango. Yes, a mango. My mango drawing consists of a mango , obviously, and the mango being peeled. This is where the interior and exterior theme comes in, you can see the outside of the mango (exterior), and from the peeling you can see the inside of the mango (interior).
I also so did Artists Collaborate because my friend Ryan kinda sorta helped me with my mango drawing. He told me that I should do an egg and a chicken drawing and I started doing that but I wasn't 100% sure about it so then I thought about it and came up with the conclusion of doing my project over my favorite fruit, a mango. Throughout the progression of my mango drawing Ryan kept giving me constructive criticism by telling me how it looked and how I could make it better. I did Artists Take Risks because I tried colored pencil using compliments. I used colored pencils to compliment shading and other techniques. I was able to finally make use of the white colored pencil and I used it to be able to blend the color to better show the shading and compliments.
I did Artists Develop Art Making Skills because I learned how to use chalk pastel. I learned that when using chalk pastel after you apply it to the paper, you can use your fingers to get the chalk color to do what you want. For example, if you want to blend colors you can use your finger to rub the two colors on the paper together.
